Cake Designers' Collaboration Photo
A couple of weeks ago I saw an Instagram post from a photographer friend of mine. She and her fellow photographer friends had produced a fantastic collaboration picture which conveyed a positive message of support to their clients during the current Covid-19 pandemic. It gave me an idea. Wouldn't it be fantastic to get together with some of the other fabulously talented Scottish cake designers and make our own version?
Initially I dismissed the idea to myself as being a daft one - would anyone actually want to join in? After mulling it over for a couple of days I asked the opinions of a couple of my cake making friends to gauge their thoughts. They didn't think it was such a daft idea after all, and that was all the encouragement I needed. I spent the next couple of days chatting to the loveliest group of Scottish cake artists you could meet. I thought if I managed to get 12 or maybe 15 people to join in that would be awesome. I never imagined that our numbers would swell to nearly 30!
And so, after coming up with an appropriate phrase, I allocated each person a word to print or write and hold in front of them for their part of the picture. I have to say there was a lot of hilarity around attempting to look half decent in the photos as let's face it, we're in the middle of lockdown - the make up brushes aren't seeing as much action as they usually do and and most of us are in our slippers a lot of the time. The out-take photos were a sight to behold...

We shared the photo on social media and got an amazing response. And I'm delighted to say that The Scottish Wedding Directory created a blog post featuring all of us and our work. It's a lovely post featuring a cake created by each artist alongside links to everyone's websites.
I can't be prouder to sit amongst this bunch of cake artists who stretch from the west coast to the east, the borders to the north, covering 4 of our main cities and the countryside too. We've basically got Scotland covered! And this is not an exhaustive list - there are so many others I could have added but there just wasn't the room.
