Making a booking

The first step to making a Cake Halliday booking is to contact me with the date of your wedding or celebration so I can check my availability. If it is a wedding cake booking it is worth considering making an appointment with me for a wedding consultation where I would invite you for an informal chat about your cake. I do not charge for wedding consultations, and they are carried out under no obligation. I’d then produce one or two sketches for your consideration along with quotes for these. If a meeting isn’t possible/practical, it’s absolutely fine to discuss design ideas via email.

For wedding cakes, 7 or 8 months notice is ideal for me, although it may be possible to work within a shorter time frame if I have the availability. For intricate celebration cakes I need about a month’s notice, while for simpler designs a couple of weeks is plenty.

Deposit and payment

A deposit of £100 (wedding cakes), £30 (single tier celebration cakes) or £60 (2 tier celebration cakes) will secure your date. Unfortunately I can’t hold a date without a deposit. The deposit is non-refundable as I restrict the amount of bookings I take and turn away other business once your deposit has been received. Payment of the final balance for a wedding cake is due one month before your wedding date. For celebration cakes I ask for full payment one week before your collection date.

What happens next?

Wedding cakes

After you make your booking/pay your deposit we’d work together with your design ideas until we come up with a cake design that is unique and special and just for you. This might be as simple as choosing one of the sketches I may have already produced for you, or it may involve more discussion and tweaks/changes to the initial design (perhaps with more sketches). I will work closely with you to find out your thoughts and ideas, likes and dislikes, colour scheme and preferences. If you have detailed thoughts and ideas I can work with these. If, alternatively, you would prefer me to come up with some ideas on your behalf I would also be delighted to do this. To me, cakes are edible art. Each cake starts as a blank canvas, from which to create something unique, beautiful and memorable. My aim with each and every cake is to achieve the wow factor. I am equally at home creating simple elegance, or pushing the boundaries and creating something just that little bit (or big bit!) different.

We’d aim to finalise your design no later than 6 months before your wedding date, with the final balance for your cake payable one month before your wedding date.

Celebration cakes

For celebration cakes I can work with any theme you might have to create a design for a unique and special cake. I am equally happy coming up with a design on your behalf.
